Researching WW2 merchant Seaman

Hi There, i was wondering if anyone can lead me through researching Australian merchant Seaman in WW2. I researched 1 back in the day but that required an email shot off to NAA. Does anyone know if the records are now digitized or will i still need to send an email request for information.

TIA

Hi Simon,

This the NAA link I always rely on and the way to use it. I hope this helps. You will find the digital records are readily available for the name you select:

NAA Link: https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SessionTimeout.aspx

  1. Sign in as ‘guest’

  2. Select the tab ‘Name Search’

  3. Enter family name

  4. Enter given names (change ‘all words’ to ‘any words’ - records sometimes contain misspelt names)

  5. Select Navy personnel records from the drop down menu. (Or WWII, prisoner of war, etc)

  6. Enter the service number

  7. Untag ‘exact spelling’ from the box just below it. (Just above the ‘clear’ button)

  8. Select the required name and

  9. Open the ‘view digital copy’ icon on the right

My best wishes and hope this helps your search.
