Passenger list Guiding Star 1855 - lost ship

Hi, I am seeking information related to the passenger ship the Guiding Star, which was lost en route to Australia in 1855. I have arrived at the NAA due to a reference made to the ship in the Bendigo Advertiser directing interested readers to the Immigration Office for further information. I have linked the full text below. If anyone has any tips about where to look within the Immigration Office records I would really appreciate it.

Hi J, I can’t help you with accessing the Immigration Office records in Melbourne, but I have found a link to the Guiding Star’s passenger manifest:

Good luck.

Hi Ruth, thanks so much for replying. The wrecksite page has a lot of great information, but unfortunately there is no source provided for the passenger list. I’m really chasing a more definitive list or source. I don’t believe it’s readily available (if it even exists), so I’m hoping to look into the immigration office possibilities.

Hi J,

It appears the only passenger list was onboard and lost with the Guiding Star, but this link to National Museums Liverpool may help: Archive sheet 64 - Liverpool and emigration in the 19th and 20th centuries | National Museums Liverpool

I don’t know if it helps, but it seems the majority of passenger were Irish emigrants with other English emigrants originating from Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.

Good luck.

Ruth

Thanks Ruth, I really appreciate your time.

You’re welcome. Good luck.
