Looking for advice on researching a relative's career in early computing

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new to RecordSearch and was hoping for some guidance on where to start.

I’m researching my grandfather’s career and family stories suggest he worked in a technical role for the Australian Government during the 1980s and 1990s, possibly involving computer systems or software projects. Unfortunately, I don’t have much more than his full name and an approximate time period.

My interest in this started while working on a fan website view details, which made me curious about the history of software development and inspired me to learn more about the people in my own family who may have worked with computers.

Would RecordSearch be the right place to look for employment-related records, or are there other collections that would be more appropriate?

I’d also appreciate any tips on narrowing down results when you only have a name and rough dates.

Thanks for any advice.
