Citizens Military Force - Darling Downs Area - Rural

Iam trying to find information and service number for my father who served in Rural Queensland - CMF around 1965. He lived in Chinchilla Qld so I assume he was under the Darling Downs. I have information that he was in the 11th Platoon and 25th Battalion but I cannot find his service number.
He was not deployed anywhere but was definitely enrolled.
Can anyone help?

Hi,

Try this link in the NAA Record Search: Session expired | RecordSearch | National Archives of Australia

  1. Select name search
  2. Surname
  3. Given names (change ‘all words’ to ‘any words’ in drop down box)
  4. Select ‘civilian service records’ (from dropdown box)
  5. Skip the service number
  6. Untag exact spelling
  7. Search

I can’t guarantee anything, but hopefully, your father’s CMF records might come up. If all else fails, select ‘all records’ instead, or even army personnel records. It’s worth a try emailing the History Unit at the Australian War Memorial, too.

Best wishes,

Ruth

I served as a squadron Commander in 101 Wireless Regiment, later renamed 7 Signal Regiment in 1965 and had fair bit to do with 25th Battalion, a unit with a magnificent history. Your dad would have been in 25th Battalion and as its companies and platoons were spread around Southern Queensland rural areas, the 11th Platoon at Chinchilla sounds right. Numbers were allotted locally but endorsed by Central Army Records Office and that is where I suggest you continue searching. Like everything else since I retired, CARO’s name may have changed. Good luck.
