I’m looking for information on my great-great-grandfather, who was in WW1 10th Battalion in Gallipoli. His service number 1061 William Joseph RANDELL, 10th Battalion, AIF (item: B2455, RANDELL W J) How do I gain access to his information/service record?
Hi,
To search the NAA records use this link: https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/NameSearch.aspx
Searching these archives sometimes takes some digging, so persevere.
In my bit of searching for your great great grandfather’s records, I have not found the service records of William Joseph Randell (1061) 10th Battalion you provided, but it is possible his name could be recorded slightly differently.
I have found a Victorian, William Randall of the 14th Battalion who was at Gallipoli, though, and I hope this helps. He was held as a prisoner of war in Turkey.
Private William Randall (532) of the 14th Battalion AIF:

Also:
William Edward RANDELL (255) who was also at Gallipoli. Link: https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=8069916
Private William Randall (7061) from Cootamundra served in the 13th Battalion but wasn’t at Gallipoli. Link: https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=8025364
I hope this helps you in your search, and I wish you all the best.
Ruth
