I would appreciate any advice on how to search the NAA records on soldiers at Gallipoli in WW1. My Great Uncle was in the 7th Infantry Battalion but died on May 8th 1915 so how to research information about him. I do have his enlistment date and service number,
Hi,
National Archives of Australia (NAA) is one of the best research tools I have found in my extensive WW1 research. I have provided the link below, and this is how it works:
NAA link: Session expired | RecordSearch | National Archives of Australia
- Select ‘name search’.
- Soldier’s surname
- Given names (change ‘all words’ to ‘any words’ in the drop box here)
- Select WW1 (from drop box)
- Service number. (If this box doesn’t come up, refresh the page)
- Untag ‘Use exact spelling’ (in case there is a record discrepancy)
- Search
If a list of names comes up, select the one relevant to you and click on ‘view digital copy’ over on the far right part way down the page. You will see all his valuable service records.
