I have a question about immigrant name change - I found my Incoming passenger card confirming my arrival as a young child in Australia in 1970 with my birth name ANDREA (as per my birth certificate) (Item id [9788886]) however this name changed to ANDREW on my Australian Citizenship Certificate, presumably because the original spelling of my name would suggest female child in english? This was done without any specific request or approval of my parents at the time and now I need to obtain some evidence or proof or official documentation explaining the name change for purpose of identification. Can anyone advise where I might find such documents?
Hi @andrc246,
These sorts of changes to names between arrival and naturalisation aren’t always well documented. We should hold the application for citizenship your parents submitted, which we call a naturalisation file.
Not all of these records are listed on RecordSearch, so please submit an inquiry using this form:
Immigration records inquiry form - RefTracker
Please outline in the Tell us more section that you’re looking for your naturalisation file and any other records that might show the change of your name between your arrival and your citizenship certificate.
Our staff will search for any relevant records and let you know what they find.
Thanks,
Jessie
Thankyou Jessie for the link you provided.
Fingers crossed it will help me find the evidence of name change I am looking for otherwise I may be in a bit of a pickle here in Italy!!
