I have a WW1 AIF Discharged from active service badge with a number on the back but no other details and I wish to look up the register to see who this is. Where is the Register please? Cheers Vic
Hi @Victor1959,
Registers for most World War One Army badges are held in the National Archives’ Victoria office in series MT1384/2 - Registers of issued medals and badges 1939-45 War, 1914-18 War
The registers include multiple volumes covering the Discharged Returned Soldier Badge, which are arranged by the Military District or state in which the badge was issued, then by the badge number in one or more number ranges in the same item.
To find the right volume, look in the title of each volume to see if you can find which volume has the right range of numbers for it.
The registers have all been digitised, so you can look at them online. To access them:
- Go to RecordSearch
- Go to “Advanced search for items”
- In the title field, put Discharged returned soldier*
- In the series field, put MT1384/2
- Search
This should find everything with Discharged returned soldier or discharged returned soldiers in the title that’s in that collection of registers. One of them should have the number you need in it.
If you’re not able to find the right volume, you can contact our reference team: Ask us about the collection | naa.gov.au
Regards,
Jessie
