I am trying to find any information on my family, they travelled according to my elderly relative on teh HMS Fairsky in 1960 to Brisbane and half the family left back to Uk on the HMS Fairsea in 1961 but their father stayed on another year.
First of all would the HMS FAirsky be the right name, I cant find any information about this boat travelling to Australia in the 1960,s?
How can I get a record of the passenger list for thse ships for the two years 1960 and 1961?
I am looking for .A.F. Perry (known as Tony), S. R, Perry (maiden name Conley) and D. A .Perry( child would be 2 or 3 years of age) listed on thse ships?.
How can I get hold of their home adress in Hawthorne in 1960-61 ?
any help please very welcomed.
J Perry
Hello
I apologise for the delay in responding to your post. The National Archives of Australia has the passenger lists for Australian ports for incoming and outgoing ships from 1924. The National Archives also holds the applications for assisted passage for those people who came to Australia under a government assisted migration scheme. If you are interested in these immigration records, I recommend you fill in an online form at http://naa.gov.au/collection/forms/imm-inquiry.aspx and selection the option 'All immigration records available'. Our reference officers will then make a search of the records for the assisted migration selection files and for the passenger lists. You will need to fill in a form for each person you are interested in. In the 'Tell us more' field, I recommend that you let our reference officers know that you are also interested in the outward passenger list for their return voyage to the UK.
I conducted a quick search using the UK National Archives Ancestors Onboard index of UK passenger records www.ancestorsonboard.com, where they link to a search for all ships. This shows that both the Fairsea and the Fairsky sailed to Australia in 1960, six times each (the index only goes up to 1960, later records have yet to be indexed). For more information see http://www.findmypast.co.uk/passengerListBrowseByShipStart.action?s...
Regarding how to find out their home address in Hawthorne (I presume you mean a suburb in Brisbane where they travelled to), I am not sure where the best place to start is. One suggestion I have is to search the telephone directory for the period in which you are interested in. The National Library has telephone directories for the period you are interested in. They have directories for various cities and districts in Queensland from 1959 to 1980 (bib ID 1697924). The National Library have a reference service, and they may be able to help you with your inquiry.
