Donna,  Do you know if her maiden name was BEASLEY ?  there is a listing on the Strathaird but it was 1961 and this Beatrice Maude WOODS (nee BEASLEY) is listed

Does you father have a copy of his birth certificate?

Donna,  We can only check marriages in Victoria up to a certain date for privacy reasons

There are no deaths showing up for her to 1988 in Victoria but of course she could have remarried or moved to another state or even returned to England at some stage (we can only check to 1988 at present)

If you can list her parents names it may help in the future if a family member comes across your posting

Donna,  I can follow her on the electoral rolls until 1977 in Victoria and then after that date she is not listed under that name

Donna,  Where did the info come from that she arrived in Australia on the Strathaird in 1959 with a Matthew?

also how did the family know she was living in Preston after arrival?

I have since checked further with those electoral rolls and they are not the right Beatrice - she was with a husband called George so a different lady altogether

Hi Donna,

If you look at the Strathaird manifest departing the UK you will see that Matthew WOODS was aged 69 and Beatrice May WOODS was aged 65.  They were Australian and had been on a 5 month trip to the UK.

So your Beatrice left home around 1946, is that correct?  Why does the family think she came to Australia?

Hi debra

my father said that his mother

had to get her husbands permission  to leave for Australia  which he did

her sister told my father that she had left for Australia  and at one point asked  my dad would he like to contact her but at the time he refused as she left him when he was nine years old  he now wishes he had
