David, do you know which state of Australia they arrived in so we can check those immigration records as NSW, Queensland & Victoria are online
Elizabeth
I think that they would have been in NSW by 10 Jan 1913, because there is a birth registration for probable daughter Elizabth P Hamilton in Granville.
The P could stand for Primrose, because when Margaret Sawyers Hamilton dies in Nov 1967, David is deceased and there are 4 children listed: Mabel, Primrose (dec), Percival, Desmond (dec)?
Sylvia
Note: David, Margaret and Mabel were in the 1911 Scotland Census. This was held on 2 Apr 1911. I assume that they could have left later that year as well ...
BTW When Mabel is born in 1909 AND when she dies in 1990, her second name is “Letham” (so not Lorraine).
PS I realised I missed one of Margaret's children: i.e. Eric
Thankyou Sylvia you are correct in all of them the second name Letham must have been a family name from past Hamiltons.I am Mabel's youngest son.Still cant trace the ship they came on or when Iknow it was before WW1.
Hi Elizabeth Allen As far as I know it was NSW but may have been in Qld my grand parents never really said and Mum said she was 4 when she arrived making it around 1913.
John Hills
John, It is possible they paid their own way and would be listed on unassisted records
These immigration records are difficult to search as they have changed the way to view them
also some records didn't survive or were illegible
I think I did see Queensland mentioned when I did a google search for "david letham Hamilton" a few days ago
Elizabeth
Me too but I found o
ut there were two David Letham Hamiltons one in Qld and 1 in NSW
John, I found the following marriage in Queensland - strange there were two with the same unusual name?
