Civilan Prisoner of War held in Borneo Find Records

My g Uncle was working in Sandakan 1940s captured by the Japanese and held as civilian Prisoner at Lingtang Kuching has been suggested Australian Forces released these prisoners and would hold records. Rupert Falkland Vaughan born Singapore 1878--so was no chicken - can anyone advise or help-thanks
