Hi,  I have hit a brick wall and need help.  I can not find the birth certificate of my grandfather,  Leopold Leslie Manual Tanks.

On his death certificate it states he was born in Moree on the 30/08/1894.  I have found another person, Edward Tanks born 30/08/1893 in Moree.

I am thinking is it possible that his name was changed/and there is a mistake of one year on the certificates.  Could anyone direct me on where I should search next.

Thanks

Beverley

Thank you Sylvia for the information above.  I will research further.

George Tanks also know as George Tuxford was born in 1838 to James and Mary (Murphy).

I believe that George married Mary A Gill..

Children:

Selina 1863  *Tuxford

Sarah 1864   TANKS

John 1866  *Tuxford

George 1868  TANKS

Benjamin 1870  *Tuxford

Michael 1872  *Tuxford

Mary Ann 1874  *Tuxford

George married Sarah Tracey  (married 1883  -  Walgett)

Henry 1885

WILLIAM F 1887

Ester 1889

James 1890

EDWARD J 1893

Edward Joseph is believed to be my grandfather Leopold Leslie Manual Tanks.

I have the birth ceritficate which states:

 Born                        Father:                            Marriage                        Mother

30/08/1893            George Tanks                  18/06/1879                   Sarah Jane Russel  (Russell)

East Mooree         Laborer                            Walgett                         Age  37

Age 48                             3 males                        Woolloongong  (Wollongong)

                                  Parramatta Rim               2 females living

                                                                          1 female deceased

The birth certificate was certified by Sarah Jane Tanks.  Mother.   East Mooree

I cannot find any records of George Tanks with Sarah Russell's marriage.

This is so confusing.  Sarah Tracy/Tracey and a Sarah Russel/Russell.  Doing my head in.

We know that my grandfather's, mother was burnt to death when my grandfather was just a baby around 10 months old.  There is a death certificate for Sarah Tanks in 1894.  Which fits with Edward being born in 1893.

This is so confusing.  I think I will have to go down the road of purchasing many births, deaths and marriage certificates.

If you can give me any direction on where to look next, I would appreciate it.

Hi Syliva, I was interested when re-reading your message that you said :

"I agree with you that William was quite possibly Leo’s brother as this pair seemed to have stayed close in later years."

May I ask how you know they stayed together?  Was it because they were both in Longreach Qld or did you come across other information?

I have come a long way since I last wrote.  Leopold (Edward Joseph) father, George Tanks married Sarah Tracey/Tracy nee Russell in 1883 and had 6 Children.  George had 7 children with his first wife Mary Ann.

Agnes Tanks died in Moree in 1891. But I cant find her birth certificate.  I believe that she drowned but can not find any information on this.  Can you please direct me in the right direction to find out more information.  I have searched Trove but keep getting Water Tanks or Army Tanks.

Thank you

Beverley
