Hi,
I am doing my family history and am trying to find out how I can locate an Enlistment photo of my 2x gt uncle Frederick Ernest Wilson. He enlisted on 11 September 1914 in Mornington, Victoria. He was in the AIF 5th Battalion and was mortally wounded in the Dardanelles and died in the General Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt on 3rd May 1915.
His service number on enlistment was 1193 but on some records it's been changed to 1126.
He is buried in Chatby Cemetery, Alexandria, Egypt.
The Australian War Memorial don't have a photo of him.
Thanking you, Marj

Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you so much for this.

Marj, Did you see the message about the Virtual War memorial online?
Glad to be of assistance - if you need any further help please let me know

Hi Elizabeth,
Do you know if all WW1 AIF had their photos taken and put on record or are they only there because someone has been kind enough to upload them? I'm only asking because I have 2 more that I thought I'd search for.
Marj
Marj, I am not sure whether they all had their photos taken in WW1 - some you see online are donated photos from family members and others were taken by war photographers or in studios prior to them going overseas
Many years ago I was told that the Australian Genealogists in Sydney had WW1 photographs available so you could contact them
If they are WW1 you need try a google search for their name and service number and hopefully they will show up in the Aust War Memorial Roll of Honour site - that is if they died in the war
There are WW2 photos on the National Archives site which you can find if their file has been put online (Record Search section)
I find quite a few by googling their names and/or service numbers

Thank you so much for all your help Elizabeth. I'll give all your suggestions a go and see what I can come up with. Take care, Marj
Marj, The following is from the online Virtual War Memorial where I work as a volunteer doing soldiers profiles
Someone has already done his profile so I will list the link for you to check it out

You can download a low resolution image from the AWM or pay for a better copy if needed (link listed in previous message)
