Hi Eric

The National Archives of Australia hold the records of the Commonwealth of Australia, and as such our records date from 1901. The shipping function of government transferred from the state governments to the Commonwealth in 1923-4 so the majority of our records date from that time.  I don't think our records will be of much help to you at this point.

You might like to try  This is an online database for passengers leaving the UK between 1890 to 1960.  If you can find when the ship left the UK, you may then be able to find the arrival of the ship in Australia.  The National Archives of Australia's Perth office has passenger arrival records for the port of Fremantle from 1898 (most ships arriving in Australia travelled through Fremantle and the manifests usually list all passenger aboard, even those who weren't disembarking).  Otherwise, if the ship arrived earlier, if you know the port it was headed for you could contact the State Archive of the port the ship was destined for.  The passenger records held by State Records Office WA may have information about all passengers who travelled through WA en-route to other states, I don't know what information is contained within their passenger holdings.

Best of luck
