How do I obtain the copies of the original land purchase documents from 1890's to 1900's  in the eastern papua division?

Dear Dave,

Thank you for your post.

Most records were transferred to PNG Government upon autonomy. The National Archives of Australia retained some national security records, as well as records of matters in which the Commonwealth Government of Australia was directly involved, or which was required for ongoing administration (e.g. personnel files).

Records of matters without significant Commonwealth Government involvement are likely held by the PNG national archives or the relevant PNG government agency. Their contact details are given on Fact Sheet 193.

Please do not hesitate to contact us though the 'Ask us a question' page of the Archives' website if you have any further questions.

Yours sincerely,
Stewart (NAA staff)
