Hi Ruth

The National Archives is most unlikely to have records that will help you to connect with your uncle, aunt, and other lost family. The records about people that are in our collection were created by the Australian government, and document an individual’s interaction with the government, such as defence service records, assisted immigration records and naturalisation records. Also, the Archives is not able to make these records available to the public until they reach the open access period, see http://naa.gov.au/collection/fact-sheets/fs10.aspx for more information.

If you are starting to do family history research, you may be interested in looking at our webpage ‘Family History – Begin your journey!” http://naa.gov.au/collection/family-history/index.aspx . The National Library of Australia also has a helpful webpage on their family history resources http://www.nla.gov.au/family-history-sources. You might find mention of your family members in an Australian newspaper using Trove at http://trove.nla.gov.au

Best of luck in your search
