Hi I am trying to find Family members who visited Australia in 1948.  But I am having difficulty in finding the exact date when they left.  It must have been in 1949 (I think).

I'ts so easy to find arrivals but almost impossible to find departures.   Anybody who can give me any suggestions?

Hi Patricia,

You won't find departure info indexed or online for that time period.  The majority of indexing is done for incoming passengers to each country.  If they were returning to the USA or UK then Ancestry.com has some incoming indexes for that time period, but they are not complete.

Cheers,

Debra

Thanks Debra.  I know the ship was returning to the UK via South Africa and maybe Argentina so I will look at UK records and hopefully will find something,

Try searching "outgoing passenger" on RecordSearch - http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au - you can request to view the cards in a capital city Reading Room (if you register on RecordSearch).
