I have been searching for a death date for my Grandfather on Ancestry UK ,  I found a Southern Australian death date for the year 1952 , but there wasn't enough information on him only a date and a name .

My Grandfather Alfred Oxer was born in 1887 , in Yorkshire , England , Alfred s wife Mary Ellen tragically died in 1912 , Alfred deserted his children in 1919 , there is no known whereabouts of him after then .

One    theory is that Alfred could have been transported to Australia ? .as he did serve two prison sentences in the UK.

Can anyone help me please .

Hi June,

Transportation ended in the 1860s.  The death in 1952 appears to be for an unnamed baby.  The mother's name is in the indexes.  https://www.genealogysa.org.au/resources/online-databases.html

Alfred was born in 1877, not 1887.  Unfortunately, if he was avoiding his responsibilities he may have changed his name.

Cheers,

Debra

Hi Debra ,  Thank you for your reply , I did realise I had put the incorrect death date in it was as you stated,

It does look like as you say that my Grandfather may have changed his name , that would mean that my hopes of ever finding him look very unlikely which makes me feel very sad .

I have done all possible searches through the UK family history sites without any success .

                                         Regards  June .
