Hello Linda

I did a search of our online database RecordSearch and was not able to find a service record for your uncle, Victor Maitland Oxman.  We have listed all WWI and WWII service men and women on this database.  Do you know when your uncle served, and in which service (Army, Navy, Air Force)?

Here he is on the Nominal Roll as Maitland Oxman:

"The service number under which the paper service record is stored is displayed first. Any other known service numbers relevant to this period of service are displayed in brackets."

I can't find any record with a similar number sequence in the NAA catalogue using the first service number (5400081), but searching the Nominal Roll by service number shows other men before and after whose records also do not appear on RecordSearch.

The two men whose second service numbers come before and after him (WX22942 & WX22944) are barcodes 6476518 and 6476519, so perhaps the missing records are in a special group?

I apologise for the delay in responding to this posting. The service number given for Maitland Oxman on the WWII nominal roll (5400081) suggests to me that he served not only in WWII, but also after the war had concluded. WWII Army service numbers have a standard format eg. QX111111, with the first letter denoting the state of enlistment (Queensland in this example). After the war, the Army moved to a simple numerical numbering system. If Maitland Oxman had post-war service, then his WWII service records will be amalgamated into his post-war service records.

If you would like to get access to his post-war service record, you will need to submit an inquiry using the online form: http://reftracker.naa.gov.au/reft100.aspx?key=06PostWarDefRef. Please provide as much information as possible to help us identify the correct records.
