Wondering if its possible to have my father-in-laws Service Records open and provided by NAA quicker than 6 week to to several months.
We are trying to identify service medals he would have been issued. Leslie Raymond Windon enlisted 22 Apr. 1941 and discharged 08 Oct 1942. Rank; Private. We believe he was in Papa New Guinea. Posting at Discharge was 53 Battalion and discharged at Sydney Showground.
Leslie Windon was born 18 March 1915 in Crows Nest, NSW.
Research online of personnel who service during WW11 displays no Honours. Leslie Windon was issued Active Service Badge No. A17806. We can not locate this badge.
We have applied online for Issue of medals, this could take 6 months.
Is there anyway of getting information on Leslie Windon sooner, before ANZAC day this year.
Hi Frank.
Thank you for your post.
As the service record for Leslie Raymond Windon is Open, if you were to order a digital copy it should take no more than 30 days to be processed.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks
Kylie
Kylie,
Thanks, I wasn't sure if I should pay $60, as I wasn't sure what I would receive. I suppose I will never know what's in Leslie Windon file unless I fill in application and pay fee.
Thank you for your response, very much appreciated.
Frank
Frank, If you can get to Canberra you can view his records free of charge - my Fathers WW2 records will cost $75 which is beyond my reach as an aged pensioner
Leslies file must have fewer pages to cost $60 which is still a lot of money for what it is
Elizabeth
Frank, If you find out what medals he was entitled to you can get replices if any are missing - I have a contact in Sydney (Christies) if you need the details later on let me know
Elizabeth
Elizabeth,
Thank you for your comments......Frank
