Can anybody confirm whether it was common practice to invent a wife so as money from wages could be sent home to the family while the son was fighting in WW1, as we have discovered a mystery woman as a wife to my great grandfather that nobody knows about and there is no records of but money was sent from his wage to his mothers house address. Any ideas or a way of confirming any of the above would be greatly appreciated.
