Thank you for all the kind things you said. You have given me a whole new family of people to get to know. I would be intrigued to know how you managed it. Please tell me the stages you went through in your research. You are obviously a skilled genealogist. Did you actually visit him at his home?
I started with the familys arrival into Australia - found that immigration record on Ancestry - this also gave me their ages and dates of births. I then tracked the parents through the Electoral Rolls - which we can get up to 1980. Of course we cannot get anything after that year because of privacy purposes. However that was enough for me to know that they lived in Melbourne Victoria - and also that Michael had married a Maureen - he was on the 1980 Electoral Roll with her. I also found Michael's parents' deaths and burials - and they all seemed to live in close proximity so I knew I had the right family.
Then it was fingers crossed and using the white pages on line to find a listing for Michael - as luck would have it FIZTMAURICE is not a common name and I found a listing for M & M FITZMAURICE in Cowes on Philip Island. So I rang and introduced myself and explained your query - gave Michael the URL so he could see it for himself and understand that I was not some nutter or stalker LOL!!
I have been doing genealogy since 2005 and I help on a couple of Genealogy sites - mainly doing look ups for people on their deceased ancestors. But I also help locate descendants of war veterans and to help return lost or stolen medals to the families (www.lostmedalsaustralia.com) - so you do develop some interesting sleuthing skills! The site I mostly work on is http://australiansurnamesgroup.yuku.com/directory
I do hope that you get to meet your cousins and their families.
