I believe your grandfather's number was actually VX82215. This was the number of the only Desmond Vincent who served in the 2/43rd. You can see some of his details on the DVA's World War II Nominal Roll, here: http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?serviceId=A&veteranId=487157. It's also possible to obtain a copy - online or hard copy - of his service record, which is held by the National Archives. You have to pay to get these copies, and unfortunately the costs have just gone up considerably, to more than $70 per file. Here is a link to the file: https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=6062258&isAv=N. It will provide lots of information on his service, probably including two photographs of him taken at enlistment. Unfortunately he is not mentioned in my new book on the 2/43rd, entitled An Australian Band of Brothers. If you do obtain his service file and would like more information on what's in it, just contact me here.
