Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me, I'm having trouble searching for my Poppa's Service records. I don't have his service number (and he passed away on Friday so no means of asking him) and Ancestry thinks there are records available, I just don't have access to them as I'm not a paid member.
I know he served in the Australian Navy during WWII and the Korean War, yet when I do a name search for him in the NAA it brings up no results.
If anyone could tell me where I'm going wrong, or help me find them, that would be great. Thanks a million.
Bryon George Harvey, South Australia
DOB 25/12/1931

Byron was born in 1931 so he cannot have served in WW2. He joined the Navy in July 1950 at the age of 19. I don't know why you can't see his record. Just use 'basic search' and use his full name.
Thank you so much Debra! Yes, I realized what I'd written afterwards, only that he told me he'd served in 'p[eace keeping' missions after world war II. Thank you! Also, They'd listed him as Byron Harvey, not Bryon Harvey.... hence the reason it wasn't showing me his records.
Thank you again!
Stacey, You may like the details from the Korean Nominal Roll as well - he is listed here under Byron instead of his correct Christian name

Please accept my condolences for his recent death

Hello
I am searching for my Grandfather's birth certificate. He was born in Brenamore Ireland and came to Australia. He married in 1935 and was involved in the Merchant Marines during the war. He went up to PNG to dredge the harbour. I am trying to find out if he was ever required to have a birth certificate either for marriage or working for the Merchant Marines.
I have had no success with trying to find his information in Ireland.
Francis (Frank) Hennigan married 1925 Died 1952 Deagon Brisbane. He was an active member Seamen's Club in Brisbane.
Can anyone suggest a way to track down his birth certificate?
A little trick for Ancestry, when you let your mouse hover over the left part of that entry, a little pop up screen will give you more information. Normally it will mention something like "there's more to see" and you'd need to pay for this extra information, but in this particular case all the available data is displayed for free and without having to log on to Ancestry.
This is what you should see:
