Greetings,

My paternal grandfather, William Vaughan, resident in Scotland, left his wife around 1915. He remained in Glasgow for some years, but then his family lost track of him. Various family members, as well as people who knew his family in Ireland, said that he had emigrated to Australia to live with his sister Emily. I haven't been able to find either William or Emily among Australia's immigration records, although if Emily was married, her surname would be different.

I've recently found a William Vaughan on the passenger arrival list of the ship Largs Bay, on the route London to Melbourne, in 1926. His address in Australia is listed as "C/O immigration officer Melbourne". This could possibly be my grandfather.

Is it strange that he would not be found in the immigration archives?

Thank you for any help,

Barba
