I have been told my Great Grandparents arrived from Ireland about 1870 and they lost a baby girl on board during their travel. Could anyone please suggest where I could start checking on this? thank you..

Hi Libby,

Early immigration records are kept separately by each State's archives.  Some are indexed by surname, and not all records have survived.  The indexes are usually very basic (name and age) and are only a finding aid so you would need to view the original manifests to confirm whether anyone that you find is your family.  Some of these are reproduced on microfilm, microfiche etc and I suggest that you join a local family history society as they would usually hold copies for all States.

Thank you so much Debra for your time.  I will ask about joining our local society.  thank you again.
