Hi

May name is Bjørn Engkvist from Norway. I try to find my grandfather Karl Edgar Andersen born 2/9-1891 in Fredrikshald Norway. I find him in the immigration and naturalization records on internet  se link http://naa12.naa.gov.au/NameSearch/Interface/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcod... but I cannot find anything  more after him. Is it possible that hi have change name and is it then possible to find his new name?

Hello Bjørn,

I wish you success in your search for your g-father's records. If he did change his name your search might be difficult because in the early 1900s here in Australia, it was easy to change your name - you could just do it without going through official records (I think??).  In the 1920s-30s some of my family changed their last name from LEIPOLD to LEOPOLD and I have not yet found any official record of the change.

You say that you found some information about your g-father in the immigration records, does that include the copy of his passport (with photo)?  When I looked I saw the page which looked like an arrival card, including the name of his ship (SS MESNA), date of arrival (10/12/1921) and the remark - "Deserted 13/12/1921".  Was he a crewman? Looks like he might not have wanted to be found.

I am very much an amateur genealogist Bjørn so I don't have many suggestions to offer you in your search.  It may be worthwhile contacting the Western Australian Genealogical Society(www.wags.org.au) as I think they offer limited help for people "out of town".

I did find this reference on a website called Reverse Marriage Lookup (http://www.wamarriage.info/Default.aspx)

Hi.
Thank you for your feedback. Karl E Andersen, you've found could be my grandfather. Do you know where I can find more information behind the marriage?
