Researching the family of Louisa (Hutchins) Brown and her 3 children, from Mortlake/Richmond England

Good evening,

I am trying to trace the Brown family who emmigrated to Australia from Mortlake/Richmond Surrey England, between 1901-1912.

- Mother Louisa (Hutchins) Brown born 1883 (widow)

- married George Frederick Brown (Deceased), in Richmond Surrey England 1880

They had 4 children

- Son Leonard born 1884

- Daughter Georgina born 31 march 1894

- Son William Henry born 12 Dec 1896

(- Daughter Edith stayed in London).

The last entry on the UK census records is 1901

I have checked the passenger lists and I have found:

-Mrs. BROWN - 1 adult and 2 children + 1 Mr. BROWN boarded at Freemantle- Navire 'Orizaba'

London to Adelaide 1901 (The oldest son who was a labourer might have travelled out first to find a job).

- BROWN - 2 adults and two children - Navire 'India' London to Adelaide 16 Feb 1902

I would really appreciate advice on how to trace this family or any useful hints on how to follow up my research..

Best regards,

Gillian

Some of your birth years are not correct.

Isn't this Louisa and William Henry in 1911?

The original has Louisa aged 50, not 30.

Leonard was actually born 28 Dec 1882 and his birth registered in 1883.  He married in 1904 to Annie Elizabeth PERKINS.  His address on the marriage certificate is the same as the family's address in 1901 - 41 Hampton Square.  He named his father as Frederick.

Leonard and Annie in 1911:

They had also included their son Leonard in that census but he was deceased.

You can search for the children's births here:

I can see a Leonard BROWN with the exact date of birth in Barnes on the 1939 register.  Looking at the other people with him,  I believe he remarried in 1936 to widow Elizabeth J GILES (nee WEBB).

Hello Deborah,

Thank you for your email.

I made a mistake when typing Louisa Hutchin's birth date. It was not 1883.

She was born in 1863 in Richmond Surrey and she married George Frederick Brown in 1880 in Richmond, Surrey.

They had 4 children, I didn't know about Albert George, although he might have died before the 1901 Census, .

Louisa would have been 48 on the 1911. The information on William Henry is correct and corresponds to the 1901 census. I I have a few birth dates for a George Frederick Brown but nothing firm.

All the best

Gillian

Deborah,

The information on Leonard is a great help thank you again.

Best regards,

Jill
