Hi,my name is Lin Buckell, nee Axton. I am trying to trace information about my uncle, Reginald Smith, who emigrated to Australia around 1950-1960.He was originally from West Derby in Liverpool, England. He was married to Jean (nee Rogers) before they emigrated and they settled in Mordialloc. They had two daughters, Linda and Sandra. Both were born in Mordialloc, I think. Reg had two sisters in England, Dorothy Vera Axton (nee Smith) and Muriel Patricia Maguire (nee Smith). He had a brother, Raymond, who was married to Maisie (nee Mary Kirk).Would love to find my cousins, Linda and Sandra. Hope someone out there can help. Cheers!
If your uncle and aunt and their family came to Australia on a Government assisted passage, the National Archives may have their migrant selection documents. You may be able to find information on their destination in those records. However, this information would be about thirty years old. Also, if they were eventually naturalised in Australia then we may have their application for naturalisation and it would document their location when they applied (again, the information would be 30 yrs old).
The records of the National Archives are publicly available when the reach the open access period as defined by the Archives Act 1983 (we are currently releasing information that was created in 1981 or earlier). Because they came in the 1950-60s, I suggest you submit a reference inquiry to our reference service using the online form: http://reftracker.naa.gov.au/reft100.aspx?pmi=HtTSfcUOwg
The Salvation Army or Red Cross may be able to make enquiries for you:
I don't personally know of any other forums you might be able to use to locate your family - but they may be on FaceBook??
You may also be able to find them on the electoral roll, however, these are not electronically available for searching - you have to go to an Australian Electoral Commission office. You may need to find a research agent to help you search - you may find one willing to help on our fact sheet 40 www.naa.gov.au/collection/fact-sheets/fs40.aspx.
