In April 1971 my wife whose name at the time was Lorraine QUINN was in company with a childhood friend Margaret JACKSON when then stay off in Adelaide for 4 days whilst on route to Sydney via Melbourne to start a working holiday. The girls were 18 year old at the time and they arrived in Adelaide at 5p.m April 8th from Perth. They booked into the Park Tourist Private Hotel 10 Greenhill way, Wayville. They following day was good Friday and in the afternoon the girls visited a couple named Helen and Ian GRAY who were residing at Unit 4/201 King William Street, Hyde Park. On Sunday April 10th they revisited the GRAYS and had lunch with them. They left Adelaide on the 14th of April and after a short stay in Melbourne arrived in Sydney by train on Monday April 19th. All efforts by our family to identify the relationship the girls had with and location of the GRAY family have been unsuccessful. Lorraine passed away early 2016 and Margaret cannot recall the couple. Whilst working in Sydney we believe Lorraine was corresponding by mail with Helen. Our family are keen to locate and contact the GRAY family as we are now putting together a history of the life of Lorraine. Our contact details are home phone 0894960094 mobile 0466225695 email email@example.com. Any information or advice to locate the couple appreciated
Unfortunately NAA can't be of much assistance without more information. We don't hold records on all Australians - just those that had some significant reason to come into contact with the Commonwealth government (such as immigrants or servicepeople).
There are a few State government institutions that may hold some records:
- State Library of South Australia holds electoral rolls for this period, so you oculd access these to check the Gray's names, address etc.
- You could contact the SA Department of Consumer and Business Services to request marriage or death records for the Grays, which may shed some light on their relationships.
- State Records SA may hold some other relevant material.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
