He joined in around about 1940-42 in melbourne He was living in Cobden at that time. his wifes name
was Iris and had 5 children Clive ,Maurice,Gwen,Robert Michael. I think he served in the Middle East. Thats about all I know.

His birth was registered in 1904 so he was a little older than he stated, and his parents are named as Robert William Henry Herbertson and Maria Bannam. Your grandfather applied to join the AIF in 1918 but was not accepted. These documents can be viewed on this site at http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/using/search/ Search as a guest, and use the words Henry Herbertson for your search.
You will also see a catalogue entry under his full name for other documents relating to him in 1915 which have not been digitised. Just click on the link in the "control symbol" column and on the next page you will see "request a copy" on the right hand side of the page.
You can follow the same procedure to order a copy of your father's records.
