Hi Judy,

I'm not sure if the National Archives can assist with this. We are the archives of the Commonwealth government so most of our records date from 1901 onwards. Moreover, we only hold records created by the Commonwealth, not by State or Territory governments.

Records of births, deaths and marriages are held by the various registries of births deaths and marriages in each state. You would need to contact the relevant registry for information about a marriage that occurred in Australia. The contact details of these organisations can be found here: http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/fact-sheets/fs89.aspx

There are also State government archives which hold records relating to the colonial period in Australia (i.e. the period before Federation in 1901). The contact details of these organisations can be found here: http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/fact-sheets/fs02.aspx.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Andrew Cairns

thanks Andrew  for your reply
