I am writing a family book on our soldiers and am trying to get some information on my uncle R J McIntyre VX48203.

He was taken POW at El Alamein, Ruin Ridge and spent time in an Italian POW Camp.   He escaped from the camp and fought with the Partisans before walking through to Switzerland.  He was later repatriated home to Australia via the UK.

Any information would be helpful.  I am also trying to find some details of his home coming.  I know they were transported in private cars to Middle Park for a family reunion.  Details are sketchy at best.

Thank you

Hi Cazza

He was a member of the 2/32nd Battalion. There is a published history of the battalion, where he is mentioned in the rolls, but not apparently in the main text. You will be able to find out more about him if you look at his wartime service record. If you don't already have this, you can pay to have it digitised at the NAA website, here: https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsRe.... Just follow the prompts at 'Request Copy'.  From what you say, his experience sounds fascinating.
